Bambu Studio says invalid config
Did Bambu Studio open your .3mf with the notification
The 3mf file has invalid config, load geometry data only? Is the model on the
plate but every print setting gone? This is why, and how to get them back.
Can I just slice it anyway?
You can, and it prints with whatever printer, filament and settings Bambu Studio had selected before you opened the file. Nothing from the project is used.
What makes the config invalid?
Bambu Studio stores one value per extruder for settings like nozzle diameter.
Since 2.8.2
it rejects a project from another slicer when the printer is not a Bambu Lab
model, the file lists more than one nozzle diameter and extruder_type does
not have one entry per nozzle. The check is check_project_config in
Plater.cpp.
A multi-extruder OrcaSlicer or Creality Print project is the usual way to fail
it.
Is my file broken?
No. The slicer that wrote it still opens it with every setting. A single-nozzle project never trips this check.
How do I get the settings into Bambu Studio?
Convert the project first:
- Drop the
.3mfon preslice.co. - Open the Convert tab.
- Turn on the switch next to Change slicer, then click Bambu.
- Turn on the switch next to Change printer. Open the printer list and pick a Bambu Lab printer. Printers saved under My print settings are marked.
- Click Convert.
- Click the tab with your file name, then the button that starts with Download 3MF.
The settings are rebuilt from that printer's profile, so every per-extruder list matches its nozzle count. Open the download in Bambu Studio like any project and read the Notes table for anything the new printer could not match. See OrcaSlicer to Bambu Studio.
Can I fix it by hand instead?
Yes. Pick your printer and filament in Bambu Studio and type each setting back in from the original slicer.
What about the not from Bambu Lab warning?
The 3mf is not from Bambu Lab, load geometry data only is what every
PrusaSlicer file gets, with no check involved. The fix is the same: convert to
Bambu Studio first. A CAD export, or a file saved without settings, gets a
different line; see
Bambu Studio loads geometry data only.
What will still not carry over?
OrcaSlicer's own settings, such as adaptive pressure advance and input shaping, have no field in Bambu Studio and fall back to its defaults. See what a conversion cannot carry.
